The Fisher’s North Island – a self-drive tour of North Island New Zealand
Day 1
Depart the UK for your flight to Auckland with Air New Zealand (other airlines are available) if you would like a stopover package in Hong Kong or Los Angeles please ask us. With Jetset anything is possible.
Day 3
On arrival in Auckland, transfer to your hotel for a two night stay. Auckland, the City of Sails is the largest city in New Zealand.
Day 4
A day at leisure to explore Auckland, perhaps take a city highlights tour, including the volcanic crater of Mount Eden. Kelly Tarleton’s Underwater World is well worth a visit, or explore the art galleries in Newmarket and Parnell.
Day 5
Collect your rental car and head north to the beautiful Bay of Islands. Enjoy the fantastic scenery of 144 islands dotted throughout the Bay with some lovely, secluded beaches.
Day 6
We recommend taking the car and heading north to Cape Reinga or perhaps an excursion to swim with dolphins.
Day 7
Return to Auckland, perhaps take a trip up the Sky Tower for a different view of the city.
Day 8
Drive to Coromandel and enjoy its white sandy beaches, perhaps visit the Driving Creek fifteen inch narrow gauge railway.
Day 9
Continue to Tauranga, the largest city in the Bay of Plenty region. With many natural attractions and a great climate it is really popular for outdoor activities such as golf and white water rafting.
Day 10
Drive to Waitomo Caves and take in the famous glow-worm grotto.
Day 11
Continue to Taupo, the Fisher’s loved it so much they bought a house here!
Day 12
From your Taupo base, visit the Wai-o-Tapu Thermal Wonderland & Mud Pools.
Day 13
Go for a ride in the Jetboat at Huka Falls on the Waikato River, go trout fishing or even take a Float plane flight.
Day 14
Leave Taupo and drive two hours south-east to Napier, the art-deco city, with a great variety of 1930’s style architecture.
Day 15
Enjoy the Hawkes Bay Wineries and have lunch at the Mission Estate or the Church Road Vineyards.
Day 16
Take the road to the south, through Palmerston North on ward to Wellington, your total drive should be just over four and a half hours.
Day 17
Wellington is filled with things to do, from the enthralling Te Papa Museum and City Gallery to the Botanical Gardens which you can visit by cable car. Tour the Parliament Buildings and visit the Mount Victoria look out.
Day 18
The choice is yours either travel onward by aeroplane homewards, or to the next leg of your holiday, alternatively board the Inter-island Ferry to Picton and the contrasting delights of New Zealand's South Island.
