For your trip to the Hunter Valley today we suggest a scenic and less congested route. Travel north through Blackheath, the highest settlement in the Blue Mountains with its magnificent views and walks. Drive onto heritage listed Mount Victoria, a historic Blue Mountains village with historic buildings and fine lookouts over the surrounding scenery. Continue onto the wine growing region of the Hunter Valley. Spend some time exploring everything this area has to offer including more than 80 wineries this area is famous for.

Day 3. Hunter Valley to Port Stephens. (66 miles)
Time for some last minute wine purchases, with perhaps another vineyard visit; before we leave the fertile wine growing regions and head, via a relatively short drive towards the coast. Drive to Nelson Bay, the oldest of the villages gathered on the spectacular shores of Port Stephens. This is a real Blue Water Paradise, the permanent home of one hundred and sixty bottlenose dolphins, and the passing point of over three thousand migrating humpback whales. Why not join a dolphin cruise or take a 4WD tour across the sand dunes or relax on one of the beautiful beaches.

Day 4 Port Stephens to Sydney (132 miles) Leaving the Port Stephens area travel south along the coast to Sydney. This is a pleasant drive with bush valleys and peaks lining the way. We suggest you travel on the more scenic Old Pacific Highway and take a detour to the Gosford area to explore the waterways and beaches. Located on the Central Coast region of NSW, Gosford has been attracting visitors for 200 years. Be sure to visit The Entrance on the foreshore with magnificent lakes, surf beaches, fishing and even pelican feeding. Arrive into Sydney in the late afternoon in time to drop off the car and continue with your onward travel arrangements or extend your stay in the capital.
