The climate throughout South America is very variable due to the terain and the size of the continent.

In general summer weather is hot in cities and light clothing is advisable. If visiting mountainous regions the daytime weather may be hot in summer but the nights can still get very cold. Rainforest/jungle regions can be hot and humid.

Most cities have numerous taxis, with bus and metro networks.

Train services vary from country to country, but are adequate to most major cities.

Roads around urban areas are fine, but rural roads are often dirt roads that are impassable if there has been heavy rain.

It is advisable to wear seat belts. Baby seats or child restraints should be used for all children.
